Our adventurous paths crossed when we were both working at a fishing lodge on Haida Gwai. Our family and friends were spread across BC and Alberta so when we got married, Hawaii seemed the best option...and that was before destination weddings were invented!
Before and after having our family, we worked in the Northwest Territories and northern BC. Several times we took our kids out of school to spend months in the remote mountains, creating a learning experience out of the ordinary.
In 1999 we were searching for a new home and looked at over twenty properties!
When we drove the long, tree lined driveway and arrived here at the farm, we looked at each other and said, “This is it.” This is where we could envision having a forever home and raising our family. We even had the good fortune to have one set of grandparents move in next door. We had found our sanctuary right here in the heart of the vibrant west Kootenays yet quietly tucked away.
While raising our family, we had an assortment of animals on the farm. Horses, cows, sheep, chickens, rabbits, cats, dogs and a goat named Rhubarb. Of course there were other ways to have fun on the farm as well, the go karts being a crowd favourite. Our family is now grown and we have just one go kart, one dog, a few chickens and we grow some hay. We still host family and friends at the farm throughout the year. One of our favourite events is the Mother's Day Ball Game, that, up until COVID, had taken place for 16 consecutive years! We feel privileged to live in such a beautiful place and truly enjoy sharing our space with others.
